Manitoba triathletes are already giddy with anticipation as the Paris 2024 Olympics approach. A common bond brings them together in rooting for Tyler Mislawchuk – one of their own, running and riding around the world as he represents Canada.
Oak Bluff, Manitoba’s Tyler Mislawchuk has been a beacon for local athletes to follow throughout the years. A true embodiment of grit, endurance and sportsmanship Mislawchuk has a solid resume to back him up including his heroic win at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where he finished first in their men’s triathlon team. There have been grueling training sessions and plenty of races along the way on his journey to Paris.
Numerous events and meet-ups locally have been organized by the triathlon community to celebrate Mislawchuk. Winnipeg has also been organizing watch parties and launching coordinated social media campaigns to show in numbers that the community cares. The sense of athletics community in Manitoba is never more put on display than the efforts to support those who are chasing a dream.
Sarah Johnson, another friend who is a triathlete from Winnipeg said “It’s amazing to see the way everyone has come together for Tyler. “Beyond that, he’s no stranger to pulling for the underdog and working hard on getting better every day. We have faith in him and are rooting for his success all along the path.
But the enthusiasm goes beyond just those involved with the sport of triathlon. Local businesses and schools have also gotten on board, making the outpouring of backing further proof that Mislawchuk’s triumphs are equally or even greater-so a source of Manitoba pride. Signs, posters, and messages of support are everywhere in the public domain which clearly shows how much they have got people behind them every inch.
With the Paris 2024 Games still three years away, Manitoba has sent a strong message that Tyler Mislawchuk will have an entire province pulling for him – ready to cheer loudly with every pedalled kilometre and stroke knowing it could be what helps bring home his gold medal. And so his journey stands as a model of resilience and fortitude – not only for athletes, but all Canadians who have watched in awe at what he has accomplished with remarkable abilities.
