Bralan Womack: Notre Dame football appears to be losing ground in pursuit of Womack

At this point, it just makes you wonder what the heck Notre Dame football recruiting is doing particularly when:

Nothing seems to be falling in line these days. It is no longer just the wide receiver recruiting, which cannot avoid setbacks.

There’s no doubt about it, Notre Dame is certainly in the mix for this cycle’s No. 1 safety. But being “in the race” seems like a bad second to when Bralan Womack got his offer from Tennessee in fact. They appeared the clear team-to-beat at that time.

Not long before that Womack had Notre Dame among the programs he liked. Recruiting analyst Tom Loy added that while Marcus Freeman and co. are among the mix, they’re behind in this one.

Loy tweeted his analysis for 247 Sports and revealed the leaders to secure the Mississippi native. That’s a sea change from earlier this summer.

You have Ohio State, Alabama, Texas A & M and Notre Dame. Loy also listed his best five, although “I would really put them in that order 1-5,” he said.

That would come as a bit of surprise if he really thinks Notre Dame is No. 5 but Loy put in a Crystal Ball with Womack going to the Irish back on June 27th. Like I, IrishIllustrated scribe Eric Thomas had a vision.

Last three months ago, it has changed. Though Freeman and Co. are still on the long list of contenders, whatever made them favorites when they reached out has worn off.

Sadly, it’s one the Notre Dame football team has become quite familiar with since way back when summer started only about a month ago. They are terrible at getting the job done with kids that are top recruits in the country.

“Were the NIL money not to be good, on guys who conclude South Bend is not where they want to spend three or four years. Something is going on. Now, the Notre Dame football program is experiencing it in wide receiver recruiting. That needs to stop.
