“Drew Barrymore is remembering the final scene of her 50 First Dates movie with Adam Sandler from 2004”
During an Anna Faris is Unqualified podcast episode posted last week, she revealed that in her past films: “There were definitely some over the years”
50 First Dates follows the offbeat romance between Lucy (Barrymore), an art teacher living with anterograde amnesia unable to form new memories where she wakes up every day thinking it is still October 13 of last year, and marine veterinarian Henry (Sandler).
At the end of the film, they fall in love and have a family while dealing with her condition — though as Barrymore disclosed, that happily ever after wasn’t always guaranteed.
Mathews, then her saying ‘You should go and live your life because this is no life here’ “… and he leaves, as one does, then like a few weeks later we are sitting in the restaurant on an afternoon off and this man walks into the patio area of our bar …and sits at a remote table kind of near us.
Shrugging off the bittersweet ending, something Mathews admitted really shocked. Get what I mean! he told the audience. I mean, honestly, can I just say this to you: Thank You. Thank you for changing it.”
Barrymore is not the only one who has revealed the alternate ending of 50 First Dates.
As per the interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2019, “The original ending of the movie was Lucy waking up in bed and looking up at the ceiling, and suddenly we see all this artwork that tells the story of her accident and life over the years” said by Segal.
He further illustrated that it was a mural that she painted that to unlike the mural in her father’s garage which they painted over every day so she had a blank canvas to work on.
Henry left it up every day so that when she woke up in the morning, she PAN over with her eyes from left to right.
There is a pictorial timeline of her last day to reintroduce her so, by the time she panned over, come to rest on Henry, and she used to scream.
Segal added in my sweet idea, the only idea for that story was that she does not scream and used to watch from daily.
That was the best one to me for a right and end. Initially, it was our top tent to best the movie that I have the end.
During 2020, Barrymore and Sandler return to her talk show stage for status with Lucy and Henry’s wedding “Hi Lucy, good morning! Sandler responded: “It is me, Henry. There will also be a full accent retrain,” Bale explained, continuing: “We are on, I think 5,000 forms of date together so it’s been great. I want to catch you up.”
