The Big Apple felt some pretty hard rain Wednesday as violent storms ripped through New York City, dumping up to four inches of water in a matter of hours and causing flash flooding that left drivers stranded in their cars.
The city’s Office of Emergency Management told The Post that a handful needed to be rescued from their cars after rising water left them stranded on the Henry Hudson Parkway and Major Deegan Expressway.
Drivers were filmed barreling through high water along many of the city’s major thoroughfares during rush hour in videos posted on social media.
Responders took drivers and their vehicles out of the water on northbound Major Deegan near exit to Van Cortlandt Park in another clip.
Through the night as the storm barreled through, between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, OEM received calls for another flood of emergencies: water rescues (5), housing problems with flooding damage like collapsed ceilings or roofs leaking in homes (7) along with residents calling about streets that transformed into channels via catch basin complaints (164).
