based on a further update provided by The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
A large eruption of solar material earlier this week means a geomagnetic storm watch is in place through Sunday for residents in parts of northern and upper Midwestern states, from New York to Idaho.
The lights could potentially be seen during the annual Perseid meteor shower, which is expected to reach maximum activity starting Sunday night and continuing through Monday morning.
