TCU and Stanford open the college football season 2024 start on Friday. This will start at Stanford Stadium. It will cardinal first game as in official member.

A season removed from a trip to the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship, TCU finished with an unsatisfying 5-7 record. TCU started last season with a loss to Colorado at home and will begin the season against an ACC – for just the second time in program history, both on neutral sites away from the comforts of Cameron or Restart.

PICKS: ACC | Big 12 The Cardinal were voted No. 15 in the preseason poll released this week and begin their second campaign under head coach Troy Taylor aiming to move up from a disappointing year (3-9) in his debut season at Stanford, as well.

The Cardinal are tied for 10th in the NCAA is total returning production, with Ayomanor leading all returners on Stanford’s roster eout of its star wide receiver (62 catches, 1.013 yards and six scores).

TCU is aiming to get back into a bowl game after going 3-6 three times in the past five seasons. The Horned Frogs were selected to place at No. 10 in the Big 12 preseason media poll, which featured conference newcomers Utah and Arizona just ahead of TCU.

Taylor: Things were different when Jim Harbaugh first took over in the Bay Area before staying strong for a long time early on during David Shaw’s reign at Stanford, but not anymore.

Stanford has failed to win at least four games in each of the last five seasons (4-2 during pandemic-shortened season 2020).

Taylor was plucked from FCS Sacramento State to restore the good name of a former power, and his fingerprints are all over the rebuild.

The Cardinal’s 2024 recruiting class ranked No. 31 in the team rankings and has yielded a dozen members on this year’s two-deep depth chart.

Stanford brings back 85% of its returning production, too — another sign to bolster Cardinal fans who’ll need a bit of hope in light on being slotted last in the ACC preseason poll.

TCU Defense 2024:

How are the Horned Frogs trying to fix that going in 2015 After finishing last season nearth= e bottom of college football statistics with their defense, TCU coach Joe Bush fired defensive coordinator Joe Gillespie and replaced him with former Boise State DC Andy Avalos. Waplert fired 4-2-5 and that might give TCU better chances for its pass rush to reach home, giving the defense more sacks.

TCU ran a 3-3-5 under Gillespie, resulting in poor sack production (a national average of only one every other game). Notre Dame transfer NaNa Osaki-Mensah had three sacks last fall and is a name to watch on the D-line.

The Horned Frogs also brought in former Nevada coach Ken Wilson to be their linebackers this offseason.

Key matchup: After utilizing a two-QB system from his days at Sacramento State, Taylor is reportedly doing the same in 2019. Ashton Daniels is set to get the starting snaps, but will see time at QB as a change of pace. Stanford’s depth chart also includes four-star freshman Elijah Brown — the centerpiece of its 2024 recruiting class. On the TCU side, what will give them to best chance is quarterback Josh Hoover who started last 6 games and ended with throwing for 2206 yards and 15 TDS.

TCU vs. Stanford prediction, picks

Like here, opening games are always up in the air on both sides; taking Stanford with points is hopefully the safest of wagers. Stanford brings back most of its production from last season, and Year 2 under Taylor should mean a big step forward for the Cardinal.
