UNC Max Johnson
Thursday, North Carolina quarterback Max Johnson appeared to suffer an injury against Minnesota.
A hit twisted the senior’s right knee and Dawgs247 reported he was carted off the field in the third quarter.
But Johnson threw for just 71 yards and one interception while completing only 12 of his 19 pass attempts before departing.
After two seasons at Texas A&M, Johnson transferred to North Carolina. A 4-star composite recruit coming out of high school, Johnson played his first two seasons with LSU and had one great year at the QB position for the Tigers.
After serving as a backup for the Aggies in 2022, he started most of season at A&M because an injury to Connor Weigman limited him to just four games.
Johnson passed for 1,452 yards and nine touchdowns with five interceptions in his final season at Texas A&M.
Johnson came to Chapel Hill with the hope of a big senior season, but it certainly started on rock solid ground Thursday. The extent of the injury was unknown.
Sophomore quarterback Conner Harrell replaced Johnson after he left the game, and Hinshaw said that if Johnson is out for an extended amount of time, probably expects Harrell to start.
A 3-star according to the 247Sports Composite out of high school, Harrell appeared in four games last season where he was 34-of-52 passing for two touchdowns and added a pair of interceptions.
Harrell opened the season as Tech’s starter but struggled early and ended up getting replaced by Bowman just a couple weeks in. He started against West Virginia in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, finishing 18-of-27 passing for 199 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions during a 30-10 loss.
