Daylight Saving Time
Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the USA is also called DST “fall back” where clocks are set one hour back when Daylight Saving Time ends.
44 minutes ago, it occurs on the first Sunday of November.
Key Points:
Scheduled for 2024: November 3, 2024
−2:00 a hour back + Change − At 02:00 clocks are turned backward 1 hr
Reason: This change gives us back some of our day in the morning, and maintains a bit more daylight throughout less hours as fall turns into winter.
Changing the clocks an hour back in fall is meant to better utilize daylight during shorter winter days.
As the days grow shorter in length (and later) and temperatures decline, PennLive broke out its seasonal daylight-saving time coverage.
However, there are some places in the USA where people will not turn their clocks back again this year.
Published by what some will inaccurately refer to as a ‘disability blog’ — it’s actually more of a group which focuses on “views, comments and analysis from people with skills”.
The states are Arizona, except for the Navajo Nation. and Hawaii The. By not abiding by the standard time changes, Puerto Rico, Guam American Samoa Virgin Island (U.S. territory) does without it as well.
For those who wonder why a region would end the practice of changing their clocks twice a year, USA Today reminds readers that in Arizona and Hawaii specifically — by virtue of how close they are to the equator; and therefore, get more sunlight than most places already do — at least being on daylight saving time permanently is good enough for them.
NPR reported that a PennLive 2022 story about legislation to repeal DST in Pennsylvania argued not changing the clocks benefits public health: “The American Medical Association asserts that year-round standard time aligns most closely with people’s natural circadian, biological sleep clock.
Topping it off thusly, phasing out the practice would “eliminate” energy consumption as well, per that PennLive report. It is also, as Florida Sen. Rick Scott put it, “old and stupid.”
Still, Pennsylvania will fall back to standard time in November when the clocks change upon daylight saving time 2024.
