Why Halloween 2024 Celebrate and short history
Halloween dates back more than 2,000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain.
The festival was held on November 1. It was first introduced by the Celts, who lived on the territory of modern Ireland, Great Britain, and northern France.
The night before Samhain was believed to be the moment the border between us and the underworld was “slackened”.
On October 31, the Celtic people celebrated Samhain when the evil ghost could return to the mortal world.
People made a bonfire to hide from them and put on scary clothes, and clothing was often taken from animal heads and skins. The land of Celts was conquered by the Romans in 43 AD Hegira.
The Roman people mixed the previous holiday with its two festivals. The first one is Feralia, when the inhabitants honored the deceased during late October.
The sedition is the day of Pomona, the Roman tree, and fruit goddess. That festival eventually gave the beginning of bob apples, which remains a tradition to these days.
The addition of the Roman celebration gave the start of the exquisite integration of Samhain into the Christian culture.
The reason was the Church was trying to change the festival of the dead with their new festival in terms of All Hallows’ Day.
Gregory III recognized November 1 to be the honor of all saints and saints, marking it on all-all hallows day. The night of October 31 has earned the so-called All Hallows Eve and gradually Halloween.
Years succeeding the introduction of the new motive, Halloween was beginning to become not a day of mourning, but those of praise.
The best prototype of this change is the Middle Ages when the poor celebrated souling. The essential characteristic was poor people praying for the dead in exchange for food, and it was then that kids started guising.
Then, as in some countries and even now, the child dressing in the house was asked to donate something sweet.
Grando, the day turned from a day of mourning to a day of happiness, unprecedented in hundreds of years. A Halloween came to the states in the mid-19th century in the style it learned since the Irish and Scotts.
As Halloween became more secular and community-centric, things like parties, parades and trick-or-treating began to become popular.
Now Halloween 2024 is a hybrid of that original holiday mixed with local customs. Children of all ages dress up in their Halloween costumes, carve pumpkins and dance about to get into the spirit.
Let’s face it, as have so many other holidays before and since that does not change the fact Halloween is little more than a nakedly commercialized take on an only slightly less macabre children harvested version of All Hallows Eve whose roots in human cultures go deep.
