The statements from Republican Mayor Mike Coffman came in the wake of disturbing video that appeared to show armed thugs associated with a violent Venezuelan gang inside one of the city’s apartment complexes.
At least two apartment buildings in Aurora have been overtaken by the migrants, Coffman told Fox News on Thursday.
Coffman said in a press conference Saturday that the buildings are owned by an out of state entity and he blamed the federal government, along with nearby Denver’s status as a sanctuary city for allowing this situation to happen.
This is not our federal issue. They need to resolve it. Not us. ‘But somehow we got sucked into this,’ the mayor said.
Somebody put them there and somebody funded it, whether its federal government or not we’re trying to find out who these gangs apparently are attracted to where there’s a concentration of Venezuelan migrants, the Aurora mayor said.
“So, they’ve actually — in effect intimidated and then kicked out the property management; taken over operations of it was being managed externally by a hotel group called Veracity –— so that’ what I understand is going on here.
One former resident of one of the complexes, who did not want to be identified, also told Fox News that Tren de Aragua members are taking rent from people living in at least one such building.

Aurora officials are sowing misinformation and fear, said Democratic governor Jared Polis.
“Governor Polis thinks it’s their responsibility to do what they can to maintain order and he certainly doesn’t need a lecture from them telling him how it should be done,” said Shelby Wieman, a spokesman for the Governor.
‘Violent crime in Aurora decreased between 2022-23, Wieman said. They fully anticipate the data will reveal a continued slide this year to 2024. Meanwhile, the recent lies stand to harm real criminal investigations and could hamper the business environment in Aurora.
Arapahoe County district attorney John Keller told Fox News on Thursday that his office is investigating multiple cases associated to the apartment complexes controlled by the gang.

The video of the Venezuelan gangsters invading one of the Aurora buildings, went viral this week.

In the end credits of the video, a door is opened and all those gang members walk into that apartment. It was unclear if anyone inside the house had been hurt.
